Workshop Overview and General Information

ALISTER BENN has been running photographic workshops to the north coast of Spain for nearly 15  years and has an incredibly detailed knowledge of not just the more iconic, well known areas, but dozens of secret spots known only to a few locals. This experience of the geography, weather, tides and seasons allows Expressive Photography to deliver incredible bespoke workshops for people seeking something more from their photography and creativity.

Whether you are looking to explore with a wide-angled lens or a longer zoom, there is something for everyone at every location. We will begin and end in Bilbao, which has excellent connectivity to most European hubs. Staying 2 nights in a beautiful hotel a short walk from the splendid Guggenheim Museum. We will spend a couple of sessions photographing this iconic building in various light conditions, as well as a trip to a fabulous local beach that is just mind-blowing in it’s complexity and beauty.

We then spend 2 nights based in eastern Asturias, followed by 4 nights in western Asturias. We travel through so many different rock types and the architecture of the coast seems infinite in its variability. We break our journey back east at another favourite bistro hotel where we will have a fabulous group dinner together, and get to experience even more spectacular coastline.

This workshop is a Masterclass in Seascape Photography and we will look at the techniques necessary to control time to influence the aesthetic outcome of the composition. How to simplify complex scenes and isolate interest will be a huge part of the course, as will encouraging each participant to find their own voice and take on this extraordinary coast.

The workshop will start with dinner on the 26th January and end back in Bilbao after lunch on the 4th February.
