Workshop Overview and General Information
Morocco is a wonderful country, rich in both culture and diversity of landscape; it is a photographers dream. Alister has a great depth of experience of the Sahara desert and the High Atlas mountains and along with our local guides, we will take you to some staggeringly beautiful areas and you will be sure to return with some breath-taking images.
We start in Marrakesh and suggest arriving a day early to take in the souks and thriving old town – “The Medina.” It is easy enough to get there in a taxi from the hotel and wander the narrow streets of large square alive with vendors, snake charmers and exotic smells. We will meet in the evening of the 10th February for a relaxed and casual dinner, before starting early the next morning with a balloon ride on the outskirts of the city and sunrise over the Atlas Mountains.
From there we will make a lunch stop with a local Berber family and enjoy their hospitality and delicious home cooking. Photographic opportunities are plenty and the light inside their home is wonderful. We then head over the mountains via the highest road pass in Africa at 2200m (7220 feet) stopping for some scenic photography. Night in Ouarzazate.
The next 4 nights will be spent in the Sahara desert, firstly 2 nights in a comfortable desert camp, with your own luxury tent complete with bathroom and shower. Then in a more remote Riad, where we can explore deeper into the desert and off the beaten track. If the quality of images from the 2025 workshop was anything to go by then we are assured some fabulous diversity of locations and opportunities.
After our 4 nights in the desert we will head back west and stay for 2 nights in the Dades Valley, an area that blew me away and I fell in love with. The ghostly white trees and red rocks working together in beautiful graphic and complex simplicity.
One more night en route via some more breath-taking scenery and we will return to Marrakesh on the night of the 19th to end with a group dinner and the sharing of a million memories.
