Workshop Overview and General Information

Alister Benn has a long love affair with the north coast of Spain. From his first experiences living there for a year in 2011, he has since conducted many dozens of workshops on this spectacular and secluded coastline. The incredible geological diversity in conjunction with its charming villages and culture make it the ideal location to retreat from the world and immerse ourselves in creativity. In November we should be greeted with soe wild seas and snow on the high mountains of the Picos de Europa.

The focus of this workshop is for each participant to build a body of work representing their unique perspectives of this beautiful coast. There will be frequent teaching in the field and on the computer to cover the key elements of technical capture and processing. The skill of seeing like yourself to create meaningful images is a critical part of this workshop. We will visit a very diverse set of locations, from the dramatic to the more quiet. This is exclusively a seascapes workshop and we will not venture into the mountains at all.

Each session in the field will be around 4 hours, long enough for you to find yourself in each location and study its aesthetics.

This workshop will be followed up a month after our return with a 2 hour group zoom session to review images, offer feedback and discuss some further points of portfolio development.

Starting and ending in Oviedo (OVD) – we will base ourselves first in some individual self service apartments. Each has a kitchen, living area and bathroom.  We will then move to a second village to stay in a pleasant hotel for a further 3 nights.
